birthday ideas, party decorationsA friend of a friend was having a birthday three weeks ago. The birthday boy wanted to go down to Mexico to spend a weekend living it up on the sunny sandy shores. Unfortunately, there was no way this was going to happen because none of his friends had money or the time to go. My friend, Jess was put in charge of throwing a party for him state side. Instead of abandoning the Mexico birthday ideas, Jess decided to bring the south of the border feeling to his house where he’d throw a surprise party. The first party decorations Jess picked out were piñatas, tiki torches to line the pool with and bags of sand. The sand was for a mini beach idea.

The day of the birthday, I came over after the celebration had started. The house was decked out with mariachis playing over the home stereo system, a piñata horse floating back and forth, hanging from the entry way ceiling and a refrigerator stocked with Tecate, Corona and Dos Equis. Mexican colored party decorations were strewn all over the walls and cabinets. The real shocker was outside, where the b-day boy was laying in the 10 x 5 sand pit boxed in with some pieces of plywood. The tiki torches were lit, people were floating around the pool holding margaritas with little umbrellas on top and everyone was having a great time. As far as birthday ideas go this one was muy bien.
