birthday party favors, birthday ideas Remember childhood birthday parties when you’d come home with a little bag of treats and trinkets. Maybe a sound maker, kazoo, lollipop and some chocolate gold coins. More then a couple of the birthday ideas my mom threw for me as a kid had a bag of birthday party favors the friends would get to take home. One such occasion my mom took my love for pirates and created a birthday theme based around all of swashbuckling fun popularized by childhood idols like Blackbeard.  It wasn’t until I took a course on pirate history that I found out Blackbeard was a real a-hole and pirate ship fun was usually lost behind the starving stomachs of bloodthirsty ocean bound vagrants. Either way pirates rule.

With a pirate ship piñata, treasure hunt through the yard for buried candy treasures and a bag of booty filled with birthday party favors, my mom created a pirate-tastic experience. She kept my tattered costume with fake earring and eye patch for a while after that party. The pictures of me holding a pirate gun from Disney Land in costume still makes us laugh. I miss having birthday party favors at every parent thrown shindig. I think it is time to bring them back for adults.
