One year my sister had what I thought was a really cool birthday idea for her one son's birthday party. She always has both a kids party and an adult party. For the kids party she usually does a theme of some kind, although with the kids getting older, I don't know how much longer the birthday themes will continue. For the adult party, the theme isn't carried out as far as it is with the kids. It's usually just the cake that holds some sort of birthday themes.

But my favorite of all the birthday themes that she's done so far was the spy themed party. She sent out invitations to her son's friends that were a note in a manila envelope. It was very spy like, top secret on the envelope and the invitation. Then once they were at the party, she carried the birthday theme into the party by giving the kids clues that they had to figure out and go on a scavenger hunt. I forgot what else she had the kids do, but it was really fun from what she told me. Of all the birthday ideas I could come up with, that would be the one, though for a child's party, is something that I'd love to do as an adult.
